Gimme Space!
Thursday, 05 Apr 2007

Seomra Spraoi is a social centre in Dublin's city centre, run by the people who use it. It has a kitchen and a library and is used for film screenings, music events, meetings, children's days, craft workshops, cafe days and more.

Some of the people involved in Seomra Spraoi will give a short talk and slide show about Seomra Spraoi, where it's been and where it's going. This will be followed by an open discussion in which you are invited to share your experiences of organising community space (e.g. community centres, after-school groups, sports clubs) and your ideas about what a social centre can be. The evening will finish with music and finger food. We hope to see you there.

Art / not art
Friday, 20 Apr 2007

The Clinic's 'Caucus Memorial' Day Out.
The Clinic is a simple response by Art / not art to what it regards as Cork City's poverty of intellectual life. While the city may host (if not support) a large body of artists, writers, scholars and scientists, there is little in the way of a genuine exchange of ideas. The Clinic addresses this lack by providing an informal occasion for such exchange, avoiding in the process the bureaucratisation of conversation that often occurs with such projects.

All that is required once the occasion is declared is that you drop by. Buy a drink and look around. Bring a book – you can always read if no one else attends. There\'s a lot to be said for a pint and a quiet read.

Vaginal Vinyl are a trio of performance and sound installation artists. Barbara Nealon, Tara Kennedy and Jennie Moran use songs, noises, costumes, props and lighting to make people feel romantic, nostalgic and thrilled. From March 2005 to June 2006 they spent Thursday nights playing records in Dublin's Dice Bar. They have also performed in London's 'On the Rocks', at 'Ard Bia Gallery' in Galway, for Sirens in Belfast's '10 Square' and were commissioned to play records in a caravan on the banks of the river Liffey in February 2006. Recent events also include performing as invited artists at Re-production, a weekend event for Strand 2 of Kilkenny Arts Festival 2006. In September 2006 they played records on Dublin’s Nitelink bus in a performance entitled 'Slow Set' for Out of Site, Dublin Fringe Festival (pictured above).
